The Jackal Public House has been in existence since at least 1817, when it was known as the Trefoil and property deeds go back at least as far as 1656.  The pub was bought by the Page Jarvis brothers in 1869 which was taken over by the Charles Wells brewery in 1917.  In the late 20th and early 21st century pub was run in conjunction with a restaurant business.  The pub was closed and sold in 2015 and to date has not been reopened.
